remembering the instruction of Narada Muni to never bite. So, he wouldn`t bite.

But at one point it became very difficult to him. And he went back and told

Narada Muni, "You`ve instructed me not to bite and therefore I`ve stopped all

my biting. But now that everybody sees that I don`t bite, everybody mistreats

me and takes advantage of me." So, then Narada Muni instructed him. He said,

"When they do this to you, then make like you are going to bite and expand your

hood, but don`t bite." So, Prabhupad tells the story... He sais, that actually

that`s what Svayambuva Manu was instructing Dhruva Maharaja. "You`ve already

expanded your hood, you`ve already showed your prowess." There were hundred

thousand Yaksas and one Dhruva Maharaja. And Dhruva Maharaja had killed

thousands of them. And many of them also fled with their arms and legs severed

from their bodies by his arrows. So then they covered Dhruva Maharaja by some

illusory powers. And then they were preparing to attack again. And this time

Dhruva Maharaja was going to kill them all. And, therefore, Svayambhuva Manu

appeared and told him to stop. He said, "There is no need to kill them any

further." So, of course, Dhruva Maharaja was able to accept this instruction

from Svayambhuva Manu. And we also see in the example of Mrgari, he was also

able to accept the good instruction of Narada Muni. So, we see that such

saintly persons, they don`t want anyone to see unnecessarily suffer. If there

is no need for suffering, then why cause suffering. This is the symptom of a

sadhu. A sandhu is one, who does not want to see any living entity

unnecessarily suffering. And therefore he is friendly towards all living

beings. Titiksava karunika suhrda sarva dehinam ajata satrava santas sadhava

sadhu bhusana. Symptoms of a sadhu are that he is tolerant, he`s merciful and

he is friendly towards all living entities. Why is he this way? Because sadhu

sees things as they are. A sadhu is one who`s vision is perfect. And therefore

he`s one who actually sees things, always in relationship with Krsna. That is

his vision. A sadhu, or one who has such spiritual vision, he can establish the

true principles of religion at any circumstances. Because he sees all living

entities related to Krsna, he sees the source of suffering of all living

entities. And he knows how to administer the medicine to cure the living

entities from their suffering condition. So, such mahajans, they establish the

path of religion. They know, according to time place and circumstances, how to

correct the situation, when everythig is moving the wrong direction. A sadhu

sees how to change the course. Not only in somebody`s life. But a sadhu is one,

who can actually change the course of the world. One who has actually been

empowered by the Lord, he has the potency to actually change the whole course

of the world. Because he can see the degraded symptomes of Kali yuga, he sees

how people are addicted to sinful life, he sees how there is so much war and

suffering. Just like Prabhupad writes in his purports, he explains, why these

wars take place. These wars take place, because people slaughter animals. Just

like right now, in the world today, everybody is watching former Yugoslavia,

because now a war is accelerating there. And many many people are being killed.

And everyone is watching, what`s gonna happen, who`s gonna get dragged into

this war. Because gradually more and more people are getting involved, more and

more people are being killed. Now Russia is getting angry. Because the NATO

army began bombing. And the Russians are starting to threaten. They are

supporting one party. These things are going on! Today! They are going on. And

everybody is thinking, "We don`t want the war. We don`t want so many people

being killed." But why are they taking place? One who actually sees, he knows

why these wars take place. Although externally it may appear to be one

symptome, that there is so much hatred. And people are fighting with this

hatred, they want to kill. And others, they want to take possession of land,

they want to claim land and resources as their own. So, externally it appeares

that so many factors come into play. But one who actually sees, he knows why

actually those wars take place. Srila Prabhupad is describing right in the

pages of Srimad Bhagavatam, what is taking place today and why it is taking

place. That is the symptome of a sadhu. A sadhu has spiritual vision. He can

understand the actual cause of suffering. Because he sees the actual cause of

suffering. The sadhu is one who is always trying to go to the cause and not to

treat the symptoms. Materialists, they see so many causes. And they send their

representatives to go and to try to make peace. They see so many external

causes. And
