facilities there. So, one of the persons, who was with us... We arrived very
late at night, because it took about six hours up this mountain road to get
there. And the vehicle got stuck. Actually, the first vehicle... the clutch
burnt (the clutch Х the thing that you push in to change gears, it burnt). Then
the second veicle picked us up, and it got stuck. Then we had to get in the
back of the lorry. For about one hour and a half, with all the cargo in the
back of the lorry... And that got stuck in the river. And the jeep picked a few
of us Х and that got stuck. So, when all the vehicles left, and it was late at
night, so we had to walk the rest of the way. And when we finally got there,
there were no facilities to stop. So, the devotees were very embarassed,
because they brought me all the way there for me to recover. And it looked like
I gonna get pretty sick. Because it drops down below zero at night in the
mountains, and I had no place to stay. So, they started desperately looking for
some place. So, they were able to convince one shepherd to let all of us stay
in his shack. You couldn`t even call it a shack. I told the devotees, "That
makes shacks in the streets of Calcutta look like five star hotels." But it was
the only place to stay. And the man who was a shepherd let us to stay there for
a few days. So, they cleaned up the shack the following morning, and we tried
to tolerate the living conditions. But when we woke up the following morning,
we saw outside the shack there were these... sheep kids everywhere. And we
began having a discussion about what shepherds usually do with their sheep.
They said, "Well, we`ll get rid of their skins." So, they picked them up with a
stick, they tried to hide them in the back. They were trying to convince me to
stay so that I could get my health back together. So, I was tolerating it,
because they kept on pushing me and pushing. And we stayed there for one day.
The following morning was Saturday morning, and then a very large group of
people who were friends of the son of the shepherd came to stay in the shack.
And they wanted to stay there too. And it wasn`t a very big shack. In this
shack they had all these kinds of pots. And I suggested to one of the devotees
who was with me, that "Today is saturday, and I am sure... (because on the top
of the mountain there were these mineral springs, and these mineral springs,
they have curative powers, they can clean the internal organs of the body. And
that`s why the devotees were convincing me to stay there for a few days to
drink the water). So, I said to the devotees... There were about six people who
came. They looked very very... low class. So, I said to one devotee, "This is
Saturday. I don`t think they came here to clean their liver. I bet you, they
came to kill goats and to drink." And one devotee said to me, "Well, actually,
I hadn`t thought of that." So, I said, "Well, maybe better think of that.
Because you see that big pot right in front of the shack? I wonder, what they
gonna do with that pot?" And then, just two minutes later, the owner of the
shack came up to the devotees... because the devotees had been hanging all
their clothes right by this pot. And he said, "Move your clothes, we gonna use
this pot." So, I looked at this devotee and I said, "It`s time to go. I don`t
care how much you want me to get better. I know what`s going in that pot. And
I`m not gonna be there to see it." And just after I said that, the devotees
started immediately getting all the things together. And I was sitting outside,
and I watched three men. They grabbed a sheep, and they started driving it up
the hill. And I turned to the devotee and I said, "They are not taking him for
a bath." So, it was amazing to watch. Because you could see, the sheep
obviously did not want to go. And then, at the top of the hill, they took up
the sheep, threw it on the ground, cut the throat... You know what took place
after that. So, when those men returned back to the shack, I was already gone.
But the devotees there were trying to preach. They hadn`t brought the goat yet.
And they tried to preach these points about killing. And they later told me
their different arguments that they were giving. And despite their efforts to
convince that killing animals is not appropriate,
